(This is an old post I’ve moved over from a blog I used to have. I wanted to get rid of the blog but save some of the posts. The original was posted on 18/07/2010.)
“There were two beautiful maidens, both blonde and stunning, who spent all their time in a tower just having fun being friends. But one day an evil Grey Imp turned up and imprisoned them. As he cast his evil spell he let out a wicked cry and they looked out of the window too late, only to see his quiff as he disappeared into the night. But luckily a shining knight in armour answering to the name Cookie rode by and hearing their cries defeated the Grey Imp in a match of football, rescuing the maidens from their imprisonment.”
– The above is just what I remember and may be way off. I know I have the original around here somewhere and as soon as I find it, I’ll update it.
Some of my best memories come from my A-Levels and time wasted in the Common Room. The Ballad of the Grey Imp is one that sprung up between me and my friend Jennie. We used to waste a lot of time (and I mean a LOT) in the Common Room on the computers, mainly playing Neopets. We’d spend all our free periods on it, all lunch and even a good hour or two after school in there. That was the origin of the imprisoned maidens. The evil Grey Imp is based on our English teacher, Mr Cowan. One of those incredibly rare teachers who is just all round amazing (but never tell him I said that) and we were constantly ‘at war’ with him. Sarcasm is a favourite pastime of his and he took great delight in teasing us both over random made up stories as well. We, in turn, would insult everything possible and particularly his grey not-quite-quiff. The shining knight, ‘Cookie’ was in fact my I.C.T. teacher, a common target for Mr Cowan to attack as I was smitten with him plus Mr Cowan and Mr Cook got on incredibly well (which therefore meant they were at each others throats constantly).
