Sorry for the cheesy title but it had to be done! Bliss Kiss nail oil is probably my number one discovery for 2014. Read on for more info. There are a lot of comparison pictures on here but I’ve kept them to the bottom of the review so you don’t have to scroll through them if you just want the info and overall results. Bliss Kiss nail oil is from an amazing lady called Ana over at http://www.simplenailarttips.com and http://www.nailcarehq.com. Ana is a fantastic part of the nail community. She not only makes this nail oil but she posts articles on nail care (properly researched with science and everything!), will always be honest in her advice (I’ve even seen her put off sales when she didn’t think her products would actually be beneficial) and posts links to nail artists tutorials and designs. Top this off with her being a genuinely lovely lady and generous too (got a fantastic free nail file from her which I will also review) and you can see why she should be celebrated.
But enough about Ana and on to her lovely nail oil. I first decided to give this a go when my friend and colleague bought a starter kit. A starter kit consists of 1 pen and 1 bottle (I’d show the bottle but I’ve misplaced mine so can’t get a pic, oops!). The bottle has enough in it to refill the pen 7 times (another lovely thing from Ana, she has a tutorial of how to refill your pen instead of just making you buy a new one every time). My friend noticed quite a difference in her nails even after one day so I decided to give it a go myself. I didn’t expect to see much difference as I’ve always been lucky to have strong nails that grow fast anyway, although the skin around my nails is quite prone to chapping. Another friend and colleague also wanted to give it a try so we ordered a set of 3 pens as I wanted to keep 1 at work and 1 at home. Delivery was quick considering it had to come from the US to the UK.
The recommendation is to do a 3 day intensive hydration course with it, then after that to simply apply it daily as and when you can or feel you need to. So I “got naked” and started on the 3 day plan. Wow what a difference. My nails soaked up the oil like nobodies business and after 3 days I could really tell the difference. They felt smoother, looked whiter on the tips and the skin surrounding them felt healthier as well. They also looked shinier. The only difference I didn’t see was strength but I’m lucky with that anyway; since then other friends have tried it out and seen vast improvements in breakage reduction.
This was back in July and since then I’ve religiously kept up with applying it at least once a day, even over a manicure as it absorbs through your nail polish plus applying it round my nails keeps my skin healthier. I can tell it still helps as sometimes I remove nail polish and my nails are incredibly smooth and shiny straight away when they used to sometimes feel a bit rough and dull particularly after intensive swatching sessions. As I was going to be away for 16 days over Christmas and therefore wouldn’t be doing nail art for the blog I decided to give it another run, a longer naked session and see what happened. The pictures are below, daily for 12 days (I found the OPI stand at duty free and after 12 days I had to give in and use the polishes I’d bought!) if you are interested in a day to day comparison although some pictures aren’t great as I didn’t have my usual equipment with me, otherwise the overall results are right here:
I didn’t notice such a difference this time but I think that’s because my nails were already improved from 6 months of using the oil. I also wasn’t doing it as an intensive treatment. I kept my nails naked and applied it probably between 3 – 10 times a day whenever I remembered. It definitely helped the skin around my fingers as the weather we had was harsh and I was getting a lot of chapping. Looks-wise I don’t think it’s as obvious but I certainly could feel the difference and I wouldn’t shy away from recommending this oil to anyone. Please do be aware though that experiences will differ – a lot of people swear by combining this oil with another very popular one and insist it is even better but when I tried it I found my nails actually got weaker so it does depend on your individual nails. However as there are now 8 of us at work using this and some have seen huge improvements I would definitely recommend you at least give this a go.
